Countdown by Deborah Willes

October 26, 2011 by

Frannie is 11, with a sweet brother and a bossy mother, and a mysterious sister who’s going to change the world. She lives in 1962, around the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The book is interspersed with photographs, biographies, and song lyrics from that age of terror.

This book was AMAZING! It captivated me from start to finish, with photographs and ironic song lyrics. I hated Frannie’s mothers, though.

This book was great. Once I started, I could not stop. It has horror, humor, and romance.

This book is about a girl named Tally who is an “ugly” and wants to turn into a “pretty.” She meets a girl, Shay, who wants to run away so she can stay an “ugly.” Tally goes on a mission to find Shay.

I thought that this book was very good. I liked that the author wrote it in different parts to talk about each person.

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi

April 7, 2011 by

Charlotte Doyle is riding on a ship from England to Rhode Island but she somehow ends up being the only passenger. When the captain kills her two friends in cold blood she decides to join the crew. But one day a storm appears and when it passes the first mate is murdered. The captain accuses Charlotte and one-by-one the crew takes his side. What shall she do?

This book is a wonderful tale of adventure and mystery. The author’s words make you imagine that you are watching that scene from the sidelines. This is a good book to read on a rainy day when you have nothing else to do except cuddle on the couch.

Gimme an H, Gimme an E, Gimme an L, Gimme A P by Frank Bonham

April 7, 2011 by

A girl named Katie Norman is constantly having suicidal thoughts. She wants to tell someone but she doesn’t want to end up in a psychiatrist’s office. The only person that sees through Katie’s ‘bubbly blond cheerleader’ charade is the boy Katie has been sending signals to for help.

This book was the most descriptive book I have ever read. Also, Bonham gets many morals out to his readers throughout the book. The most important is – Life is short, live it good.

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

January 18, 2011 by

Macy has the perfect life.  She gets the best grades and has the perfect boyfriend but her dad died.  She meets new friends, turning herself around seeing the bad side of the world.

I thought it was a great book because Macy always saw the positive side of things but when she meets new friends she turns rebellious and negative.  It was fun to see two points of views.

The Patriot with Mel Gibson

January 18, 2011 by

The Patriot is a movie taking place during the Revolutionary War.  It’s about one man, Benjamin Martin in South Carolina, that forms a militia to help the American Army to defeat the British.

I really liked this movie because it gave me so much details about the British trying to get to Washington.  And when the Americans waited for the French to arrive and help them defeat England.  It also taught me that it was hard for American families during the war because if you helped the American Army they British would burn your house down.
